Cameron Wells makes an investment to not be as bad at cricket
In the lead up to the 2022 Kunyung Cup, Ranelagh player Cameron Wells has taken dramatic steps to up his training regime. After his lackluster performance in the previous Cup, Wells has gone to great personal expense by replacing the personal virtual golf simulator at his residence with a new state-of-the-art bowling machine and batting cage.
Pundits estimate that the total cost for this installation would have set Wells back upwards of $10,000. When approached for the comment, Wells said that he was more than happy to front up this cash, as the potential return on investment would be priceless. “I still have nightmares about my performances in 2019…” said Wells, visibly shaking. “I’d pay ten times as much if it meant I could sleep properly at night again.”
The set-up is said to include one of the most expensive bowling machines on the market, a Bazooka Supreme 3 Wheel Bowling Machine, which has been specially modified to include a 60-ball automatic ball feeder and remote-control variable speed settings. Within the facility is also an Augmented-Reality (AR) fielding practice simulator, which places users in the slips cordon facing edges for hours at a time.
With all the extra time in the training facility, Wells is confident that he can finally achieve some form in not only the Kunyung Cup, but any sport in general. “A lot of the training I do in here can be transferred across to other sports, like golf and lawn mowing” said Wells. “It’s all a tax write-off anyway.”
The Ranelagh Cricket Club declined to comment about Wells’ financial decision-making, but the team doctor has expressed some concern about the amount of time Wells is spending cooped up in his basement.
“He didn’t attend the first training session in-person, but instead Zoom-called us from his facility and trained at the same time. It was a bit weird to begin with, but fair enough he was still training,” said Dr. Pepper. “The real concern was when we started to hear him having conversations with himself. And this wasn’t just like little comments trying to pick himself up after a bad ball or something. This was a full-on conversation with himself – he was even doing different voices too. I don’t think he’s seen daylight for some time now.”
With the 2022 Kunyung Cup scheduled for December 11th, viewers from around the world will soon be able to see for themselves if Wells’ investment was worthwhile.
