Ranelagh remain unchanged at selection heading into the cup

Ranelagh Cricket Club has made no changes heading into the 2022 Kunyung Cup, with captain Tim Drummond backing in a side that had an impressive start to 2019 but faltered at the final hurdle.

Tim 'Cotton Wool' Drummond

Cap #1

Tim Drummond will once again be a key figure for Ranelagh Cricket Club. The vast majority of RCC’s budget has gone into purchasing cotton wool and bubble wrap in order to stop Drummond from injuring himself before Sunday. A request has also been put in to Parkdale United Cricket Club to ban him from taking quick singles this weekend. He has been excited to finally get a tan, seeming as his brother has moved far enough away to allow the sun to reach him, however the weather has had other ideas. Drummond should be a solid contributor during the cup, that is if he has finally gotten over the stress of watching the weather report and hoping that it stays okay.

Captain

Andrew 'Sandstorm' Richardson

Cap #2

One word can be used to describe Richardson’s last Kunyung Cup. Disappointing. No wickets, no runs, plenty of dropped catches. Apparently he is in the side to “boost morale”, but that is questionable too. While his nickname can be attributed to the nightlife scene, it is also derived from his batting. Much like sand, he stays in and annoys the opposition to no end. Richardson cleared the schedule this weekend so that he was fresh for the Cup, having experienced the torture of playing cricket hungover first hand in 2019. He is keen to actually do something on Sunday, and has been training hard to make sure that the ball actually makes contact with his hands when going for a catch.

Morrison 'The Tidsoptimist' Bent

Cap #3

The definition of a Tidsoptimist: someone who is optimistic about how much time they have to prepare for something, who is therefore often late. He will be an integral member of the Kunyung Cup, if he remembers to get there on time or not forget that it is actually on. Bent has been the busiest over the last three years; an engagement, marriage, two weddings and a kid. He has caused quite a surprise by saying that he can play the tournament, seeming this means that he is actually allowed out of the house. We are unsure of what we will be getting from Bent this year, however what we are sure of is that no couch is safe if a big six is hit and he is sitting on the sidelines.

Jacob 'Kindergarten Cop' Mehrtens

Cap #4

Jacob Mehrtens. The name strikes fear into all playground users and equipment. Having recently regained his love of the gym, Mehrtens has vowed to invest money into reinforcing the surrounding infrastructure of Kunyung Oval for when he unleashes his pull shot. He willingly chose to change to teaching Grade 1 this year in preparation for the Cup as he was wanting to expose himself to a similar level of sledging that he would receive from Moondah Cricket Club. Now a Rosebud local and a larger than life figure, Mehrtens is looking to build on a very strong 2019 showing where he was a dominant player for Ranelagh Cricket Club.

Cameron 'Single Figures' Wells

Cap #5

Cameron Wells has finally settled down which has caused great benefits to his life, mainly his golf game as he is no longer feeling rusty every Saturday morning. Wells has impressively got his handicap to 6, but has failed at his goal of getting it lower than his batting average before the start of the 2022 Cup. Overconfident in his own abilities in 2019, he has followed intensive training to not fall into the trap again of going for one too many. Mitch Drummond’s nemesis, Wells is looking to continue to tempt him with slow loopy off spin that hardly lands on the pitch. He has expressed his own happiness in his last performance, stating that he was just proud to have at least done more than Andy.

Sam 'Replacement Jack' Forster

Cap #6

Forster finally conspired against former Moondah Cricket Club player Jack Dunstan, forming a mutiny and banishing him out to Gippsland while taking his job and home in the process. Forster has reportedly used his position of power to force all the employees to bowl at him for two hours each day so that he can help to win this year’s Cup. Known for his dance moves and charisma, Forster also can intimidate opposing batsmen with his hell for leather run up in his bowling. Having shared best man duties at one of Mo’s weddings with his captain, he will be hoping to cash in on this bonding for preferential treatment come game day.

Michael 'Cool, Calm and Collected' Evans

Cap #7

Having nightmares of his first over dismissal at the hands of Mitch Drummond, Evans has reportedly been pleading with his captain to place him down the order. His nickname seems to be derived from his batting, where he is cool and calm while his middle stump is being collected. Now a well polished dad, sleep deprivation is a thing of the past as he is expected to be fresh and ready to go for Sunday. Evans can contribute to all areas of the game, even showboating at times while keeping with a sausage and bread in one glove. He is well known as the best wicketkeeper in the Kunyung Cup, and will play a key role in Ranelagh’s fortunes this year.
